Our 2 Day Side Trip to Tanzania

Going to Tanzania with the additional hassle of required proof of yellow fever vaccination, the expense and hassle the Visa application produced, and the additional expenses to put together another Safari might not have been worth it if not for Chuck’s determination to see and touch a Boabob tree. Since this was accomplished, plus game drives in a new environment which was lush and green including tse tse flie bites, in retrospect, the hassles and expenses seem very much worth it. And now we are in India with a very different daily agenda on a group tour. We left East Africa with much emotion. Our Maasai guide, Muli, said “we do not say goodbye, we say next time.”

Our guide in Tanzania, Alpha, and Chuck under a boabob tree.
Tarangire National Park had 40,000 boabob trees
Here Chuck may be hugging one of the oldest living things on earth. These trees do not have growth rings. Estimates of age are made by size. Some of them are estimated to be 3,000 years old.
Standing underneath and looking up gives the perspective of longevity

A few of our African miscellaneous pictures follow.

A cactus called candle opera
Muli, our guide in Kenya for the driving safari.
Our brief stop on the equator was proven to us by seeing a demonstration of water swirling Right and 20 yards away swirling left. We are believers.

  4. Love the tree photos. Envy Chuck (and Louise). Would love to touch one of those trees and see all you two have and will see. Snowing again here, but at least it’s warmer. Safe travels, Virginia Wolf

  6. Harper here–You guys look like you are having the time of your life. Please tell us Chuck, why you wanted to experience a Baobob tree? Is it simple age and size? To be sure, trees are magnificent beings. Love the water swirling equatorial demonstration–does it work with wine too?

    1. good question Harper. Hate to waste the wine trying it. I guess we could drink it while it swirls.
