One Way Ticket

As we said in an earlier post, tourism is second to the Suez Canal in generating revenue for Egypt. It is a high-end tourist industry. When we drove from Luxor to Aswan instead of being on a river boat for three days, we had a moving glance at an Egyptian countryside and living situation. The contrast between these two worlds was stark. There are the luxury hotels for tourists and the Third Worldish circumstances for everyone else which we saw as we drove along. We hope these few pictures tell the story.

We are now in Kenya day six. We may want to return to East Africa someday and we are glad to have visited ancient Egypt, but we have no desire to return to that country. From our front porch of the tent house here at the Offbeat Lodge today after lunch, we could see a wildabeast, three giraffes, and a small herd of zebra. It is difficult to mentally return to Egypt.
