Pousada Mosteiro de Guimarães

From Braga, we took a bus day trip to Guimaraes to explore its well preserved ancient city center. We decided to stay the night at the Pousada 2 km outside town.

To spend most of a day and a night in a historic cultural location, and thus experienced to a degree, how life had been lived years ago by the elite, or in this case a wealthy monastic community is a gift we gave to ourselves. Since I am prone to Motel 6’s, giving myself a stay in a Pousada is anything but ordinary.

Dinner service began at 7:30 PM. We hadn’t eaten since morning. When a group of distinguished looking men left the bar area and left behind plates full of tapas, L went over and stole some nourishment. “fox paw” number one.

Ancient walls, antique furnishings, gardens and attentive service put me slightly on edge.

7:30 and dinner finally came. Here I am confused over what eating utensil I should use. So, I am in the appropriate “fox paw” position. (Sorry I don’t write in French.)

Stealing an orange after a wonderful breakfast buffet is “Fox paw” number three.

This Tongue In Cheek narrative really does not do justice to the wonderful experiences we had at the Pasada. The staff was lovely, helpful and courteous. Everything was wonderful!

  6. did you take any pictures of your room or was that what we were seeing. How did you know you made any “mistakes “? Did someone say anything? Were there other travelers staying here? It looks so massive and empty

these pictures and comments are wonderful

    1. hi Sheri, well at the Posada we just knew we were making some mistakes and we did it just for fun. while we were there probably were a dozen people also staying there. This is their off-season and we enjoyed being there in the off-season very much. the facility was indeed massive, I’m so glad you’ve come along with us on this trip
